The area in shadow in the image at left. Examination of this photo reveals a lot about the dimensions of the firebox and throat arches. The brick dimensions are 9ins x 4.5ins x 3ins.

The primary air is introduced through sliding panels in the the stoking door. This panel is shown fully open.

Here the panel is closed. There are two of these apertures in each stoking door.
